I Resolve To

Like many of our so-called holidays, New Year’s and New Year’s Eve is one of those totally contrived holidays that don’t mean much of anything.  Maybe there is reason and cause to celebrate the end of 2008 but in general, I’ve always wondered what exactly we’re celebrating on New Year’s.

A new year means we’re going to be a year older.  Let’s celebrate that!  A new year means we’re a year closer to having failing health.  Woo hoo, let’s party!

New Year’s does give us an opportunity to start a fresh and try to make a change for the better.  There’s no reason we couldn’t make our resolutions for a better life on, say, the 17th of May but there’s something about the clean break with the past that the new year brings.

I typically think that making new year’s resolutions is a bunch of hogwash because they get broken faster than the toys kids just got for Christmas.  But with that said, I want to hear your new year’s resolutions.
